MADISON, Wis - Gov. Tony Evers says "he's in," officially confirming on Saturday his run for re-election.

Evers made the announcement in  a speech during the Democratic Party of Wisconsin's State Convention.

"Wisconsin, I'm in. I'm running for reelection. We've accomplished a lot in the last few years, but we're just getting started," Evers said at the state Democratic Party's virtual convention.

In an interview  on Friday, Evers told The Associated Press that he decided to run again because he has unfinished business and needs to remain able to stop Republicans through his veto powers.

On Wednesday, Evers announced his campaign staff, with Cassi Fenili as the campaign manager. That same day he told reporters during an event kicking of Dairy Month, that people "will know in a week" if he would run again.
