Rhinelander - Susie Crazy Thunder, Nicolet College Tribal Outreach coordinator, has been named to the transition team of incoming Wisconsin State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jill Underly.

The 14 members on the team bring to the table a broad and diverse range of skills, backgrounds, and experiences that will guide them through the transition process.

Underly won election to the seat in April. She'll take office in July.

"It's an honor to serve on the transition team and add a tribal voice to this next very important chapter of public education in the state of Wisconsin," Crazy Thunder said.

"It's vital to get that broad range of experience so that the Wisconsin public education system can ensure quality education for all children in the state."

The team consists of representatives from all geographic areas of the state, both rural and urban, as well as significant representation by minority communities.

"They represent a broad group of stakeholders and each brings a passion for public education and a commitment to helping our new administration fulfill our pledge to build a public education system where every child gets what they need to succeed, every day," Underly said in a statement.

Crazy Thunder, whose Anishinaabe name is Giiwedinookwe (North Wind Woman), is a member of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe. She also serves on the board of the Wisconsin Indian Education Association.
