Tomahawk - The Hatchet Lifting Club is having their second annual "Liftathon" event where members get sponsors from around the community and then get to work. For each pound they max out at, the sponsors donate a set amount of money to provide the weight room with new equipment.

So far, the club has crushed their goals.

"We've also done a business sponsorship this year. As a group, if we lift 5,000 pounds, they'll donate 50 bucks. if we lift 7,500 pounds, they'll donate 100. Right now, we're almost to the 12,500 mark," said advisor Andy Peissig. "We're really doing very well, the kids have been going through the roof on their maxes this year."

To take it a step further, the group even decided to give back to those in the community.

"They understand that as athletes, they're pretty lucky and fortunate. One of the parts of our mission is to help underprivileged kids in town. We pick a charity that 10% of our funds go to every year," Peissig said. "That all came from the kids and that tells you the type of kids we have involved here and what kind of character they have."

The Liftathon comes to an end on March 26.
