St. Michael's Foundation to offer $3,000 in scholarships

Stevens Point - Ascension St. Michael's Hospital Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2021-2022 academic year. Scholarships are awarded to students pursuing careers in the healthcare field. Applicants are awarded one scholarship but are allowed to apply for more than one.

Available scholarships:

• Richard A. Eckberg Memorial Scholarship:

The Richard A. Eckberg Memorial Scholarship was established in 1998 by his family and recognizes Dr. Richard Eckberg, a highly respected surgeon committed to healthcare education. He served our community at St. Michael's Hospital for 22 years. The Richard A. Eckberg Memorial Scholarship will award one $1,000 post-secondary education scholarship for the 2021-2022 academic year to a student living in Portage County (or the surrounding counties) who will be attending an accredited technical, undergraduate, graduate or doctoral program in a healthcare field.

• Ascension St. Michael's Medical Staff Scholarship:

Since 2009, this scholarship has been funded by the Medical Staff of St. Michael's Hospital to encourage our future medical professionals. The Medical Staff Scholarship awards one $1,000 post-secondary education scholarship for the 2021-2022 academic year to a student living in Portage County (or the surrounding counties) who will be attending an accredited technical, undergraduate, graduate or doctoral program in a healthcare field.

The recipient of the Ascension St. Michael's Hospital Medical Staff Scholarship will be chosen based on scholastic achievement, extracurricular activities, community involvement, volunteer service, strong career motivation and personal recommendations. Financial need and children of Ascension Medical Group and Ascension St. Michael's Hospital associates will be given strong consideration.

• Janice and Robert Weaver Memorial Scholarship:

In 2008, this scholarship was established by Dr. Robert Weaver's family to honor Dr. Weaver's commitment to higher education and recognize the compassionate and quality medical care that was provided to him during his life.

The Janice and Robert Weaver Memorial Scholarship will award one $1,000 education scholarship for the 2021-2022 academic year to an associate of Ascension St. Michael's Hospital or Ascension Medical Group who will be pursuing a degree in a healthcare field from an accredited technical, undergraduate, graduate or doctoral program.
