Rhinelander - From the opening horn to the final wall, Rhinelander's boys swim team is full-go.

"That's how you get better, is to push yourself, race, and that's what these guys do constantly," said Head Coach Jenny Heck. "Every single day they're racing each other."

The program runs on a culture of competition that some guys have been around for years.

"The brotherhood we have and the team competitiveness means so much," explained senior swimmer Joseph Heck. "That's why we've all stuck together throughout the years and it's why we're the strongest team, I say in the state."

While others may be new, it didn't take long to get up to speed.

"Knowing each other well and knowing what each one of us can do, it allows us to be able to push each other to the best we can be," said Ashton Cole.

Although the talent runs deep for the Hodags, they know the ultimate goal requires working on their technique.

"We're just really into a lot of the technical things that are those tenths that will make the difference between first and second," said Coach Heck. "Finishes, starts, turns."

"It comes down to every hundredth of a second," added Joseph Heck. "Every stroke there's so much technique that you've got to think of."

Now, the Hodags are hoping to finish the season with a state championship and they feel this team is ready to accomplish the task.

"I don't think there's a better team out there to learn how to do the sport, to feel invited, to dominate," said Cole. "It really is the best team we could have and I couldn't be more grateful."

Rhinelander will compete at the Great Northern Conference meet next week before entering tournament races.
