Rhinelander, WI - Jacob Petitt made his initial appearance in Oneida County court today. He was arrested by his own employer on Monday for solicitation of prostitution.
Petitt appeared in court from the Vilas County Jail.
He's also facing a charge of misconduct in public office.
Petitt is an Oneida County corrections officer and would monitor female inmates at the Oneida County jail.
The criminal complaint shows Petitt had contact with females who had been incarcerated.
Starting in 2018, Petitt reached out to several female inmates on social media.
Police say during their contact at Petitt's house, Petitt gave tips on how to avoid drug enforcement officers in exchange for sexual favors.
But Oneida County Judge Michael Bloom said the evidence presented was weak.
"From reading the complaint, it is unclear which individual was the one calling the shots," said Bloom.
Petitt's preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday January 20 at 4pm.
His bail terms include a one thousand dollar cash bond and he is ordered to have no contact with the involved female inmate.
Petitt has been placed on administrative leave.
Anyone with information that may assist in the investigation should contact Detective Sergeant Kelly Moermond with the Oneida County Sheriff's Office.
