Rhinelander -

Mary Gooze has traveled all over the United States and all over the world, but she isn't just sightseeing; she's traveling with a purpose.

Six years ago Mary was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer and since then she's been traveling around to swim and raise money for cancer research.

Her mission is called "One Woman, Many Lakes" and over the past few years she's helped raise over $1.2 million.

Today marked a milestone for Mary as it was swim number 50, she took the plunge on Fifth Lake in Rhinelander on Saturday morning. She swam a half a mile with friends and supporters surrounding her on boats and docks.

Despite all the good she has done Mary's purpose is keeping her motivated.

"Quite frankly, this research may not help me," said Gooze. "I may not live long enough to see it help me. But, if I can help my children, my daughter, my granddaughters that's what keeps me going."

Mary said after raising more than one million dollars for cancer research her next goal, is logically, to try and hit $2 million.
