RHINELANDER - The Rhinelander Hodags boys soccer team raised 200 dollars for a local woman fighting breast cancer.Members of the team came together after their practice for winter sports to present the check.
All the money was from their sale of Kick Cancer t-shirts.
It's a task they saw as both a privilege and a responsibility.
"I think every high school team should have a responsibility to give back to the community because they support us all," team member Hugh Wiese said. "They support the high school, they support all sports."
Several people suggested the team give the money to a Rhinelander woman named Nicole Dorion, which they did.
She's been receiving treatment at both the Marshfield Clinic in Minocqua and the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for roughly the last half-year.
Dorion is cancer-free at the moment, but she still needs the money for travel to the hospital.
"The funds are going to be helpful in kind of paying for those daily expenses," Dorion said. "You know, travel, food, just making ends meet when you're going through such a heavy medical expense."
Rhinelander's players say they hope to do more of these fundraisers in the future.
Many local volleyball teams did breast cancer awareness games as well.
