MINOCQUA - Hunters all across the state will get to see the artwork of a Minocqua business owner next year.
Robert Metropulos, the owner of Parkside Gallery, designed the 2020 Wisconsin duck stamp.
He was also chosen as the Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year in Ohio, and placed second in the Ohio duck stamp competition.
"What it is is a stamp that you have to purchase when you go duck hunting," said Metropulos. "There's a lot of people that I know that do duck hunt and it'll be kind of neat to have my image on the 2020 stamp."
It's been thirteen years since Metropulos entered a stamp competition. He says painting such small pieces takes a toll.
But when two of his friends placed in the federal duck stamp competition, he wanted to get back into it.
"I decided to enter all of these different states to get geared up for the federal," said Metropulos.
He'll work towards that federal stamp win next year, but until then, Metropulos will focus on painting on a bigger canvas.
"A lot of the artists say that after the finish the competition now they can go back to being an artist," said Metropulos.
Hunters purchase both a state and federal stamp. The money collected from the stamps goes towards upkeep of the animal habitats.
