STEVENS POINT - The company Worzalla prints the famous Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. The books were nominated for the coolest thing made in Wisconsin. Workers here are proud of that and much more.
Printing machines at Worzalla almost never stop. The Stevens Point-based printing company churns out books nearly 24/7, including more than 140 million Diary of a Wimpy Kid books.
"When you look at the fact that right here in central Wisconsin, we're printing one of the most well-known children's series," said Director of HR Brianne Petruzalek. "That's a pretty big deal to know that."
Worzalla is the only printer in the United States to make the books from the series.
"It's a unique product that we produce here," said Quality Manger Paul Davis.
Davis hopes he'll be part of the winning team. He said many of the workers are proud to make famous books like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, even though they don't get much recognition.
"For us, we're a business that a lot of people don't know about," said Davis. "We're kind of the best kept secret in your backyard."
Brianne Petruzalek said another reason the 300 workers are proud is that Warzolla is 100% employee-owned. "It's really due to our talented and committed employees that were able to be a part of and create the books that we do for Diary of a Wimpy Kid," said Petruzalek.
Petruzalek said what separates Warzolla's product from the hundreds of others in the competition is that it's well-known nationwide and worldwide.
"You can walk up to any kid, probably to any parent, and they're going to be able to tell you what Diary of a Wimpy Kid is, who the author is," said Petruzalek. "So to know that what we're doing right here is connected to pretty much anyone in the world, it's pretty cool to know that.
