Construction on Highway 86 will close lanes in Tomahawk
TOMAHAWK - Rutting and cracking on Highway 86 in Tomahawk led to a construction project that got underway this month.

The DOT is replacing pipes underground this week. You'll only have to look out for a one lane closure right now.

But starting July 15, all lanes will close between County Highways E and O. Traffic will be rerouted onto State Highway 13 and U.S. Highways 8 and 51.

The lanes will be closed for 12 days, but it should be the last time something like this will happen on Highway 86 for a while.

"This is just a resurface job so it all depends on the roadway structure underneath. If it's a pretty good structure we're looking at 10 to 12 years that this road will last," said DOT Project Manager Jim Volkmann.

The major part of the project that will impact traffic will be completed by October.
