Update: One dead in officer involved shooting, two others hurt including Wood County Deputy

WOOD COUNTY -
One person died and a deputy was shot Tuesday night in Wood County.

Wednesday, the state Department of Justice reported the deputy is recovering in the hospital.


It started with a request for a welfare check Tuesday evening at a home on State Highway 186 in the Village of Arpin.

The person being checked on ran back into the home while an evaluation was underway and grabbed a knife.

A struggle began and the person was shot by police.

In addition to the Wood County Deputy who was shot , another person at the scene was injured.

Both are in stable condition at a hospital.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation will lead the investigation, with assistance from other agencies.

A Wood County officer was shot during a welfare check Tuesday night. 

Officers from the Wood County Sheriff's Department went to check on a suicidal person in the town of Arpin around 7:30 p.m.

The officer was airlifted to the hospital. 

We do not know the status of the officer or the person officers were checking on. 

The Sheriff's Department says this is an isolated incident and the public is not in danger.
