LAND O' LAKES - Grocery lists got a little longer for some folks the last three weeks. Those extra items didn't end up in homes; at least not yet.
Thursday, a truck from Trig's delivered them to pantries who will make sure they reach those who really could use them.
The Headwaters Food Pantry in Land O' Lakes got a lot of help sorting food as it came in. Over 600 pounds was delivered.
"It's a great success," said Headwaters Food Pantry President Tom Rohloff. "We really don't have any large, local businesses.
That makes the event Trig's has held for the last nine years that much more valuable. The community that surrounds the food pantry has been very supportive.
"The town of Land O' Lakes is a great donator. We have numerous local contributors that does an excellent job in supporting us," said Rohloff.
Many families from Land O' Lakes, Conover, and Phelps use the pantry twice a month. With all the traffic that they get from people picking up food, they can get backed up. A project is now in the works to help.
"We're looking to do some renovation to expand our size and the flow through year because we can get 50-80 families every pick up," said Rohloff.
The food delivered by Trig's could last for quite a while. They received non-perishable food like canned goods, cereal, and dry goods.
"Since we've got a lot of one type of product, I would say this will last us into the summertime for some of those categories, said Rohloff.
Trig's also received more than $15,000 in donations. The grocery chain used those donations to buy more food for each pantry's needs.
