WAUSAU - Several weather-related crashes blocked all southbound lanes on US-51 in Marathon County, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
The DOT reports the crashes happened over an approximately two-mile stretch between County WW and County K north of Wausau.
An email from the DOT Incident Notification Center marked the crash site as cleared as of 2:46 p.m. Sundya.
The Marathon County Sheriff's Office and State Patrol detoured cars around the crashes via the following route: Traffic must exit at CTH WW and take that west to CTH K. Take CTH K south back to USH 51.
According to 511wi.gov, the stretch of Highway 51 where the crashes happened is "snow covered", which is the third level of winter weather impacts on roads the DOT lists, after "good winter driving" and "slippery stretches."
An emailed update from the DOT noted the detour and closures would last two hours.
