Police: Antigo man tried to kill girlfriend in Crandon; faces 31 criminal charges
CRANDON - Prosecutors say an Antigo man planned and tried to kill his girlfriend in Crandon this fall.

Cory Brown, 40, is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide and 30 other crimes across four cases.

Brown's girlfriend told police he strangled her, punched her, shoved her face into the ground, and knocked her unconscious.

"I'm not f****** letting you go, you'll be lucky if you get outta here alive," Brown told his girlfriend, according to her statement to police.

"Our theory is is that he attempted to, he intended to, he planned to [kill the victim]," said Forest County District Attorney Chuck Simono. "When it comes to first-degree [attempted homicide], your planning to do so can be just a matter of seconds before you act."

Another witness told police, minutes before the attack, Brown texted a friend that he was going to kill his girlfriend.

"From the timing of things, his communications electronically, and then, his overall physical behaviors and conduct after that toward this victim, it's kind of collaborative, corroborating evidence," Simono said.

The victim told police she thought Brown had been drinking.

According to police, Brown called her from jail and asked if the relationship was over.

If he's convicted of attempted murder and other charges, he could face more than 165 years in prison.
