Three Lakes School District gets another safety grant
THREE LAKES - A Northwoods school received another safety grant, but this time it's for more than securing the building.

The Three Lakes School District got more than $28,000. In part, that money will be used to train faculty on student mental health.

"When you talk about mental health it's critical because someone who is struggling, even if they have a headache for the day, they're not going to be an effective learner," said High School Principal Gene Welhoefer. "So addressing their mental health issues is very important."

The training will cover a wide range of topics.

"Some of the trauma informed situations students may be coming from, we're also addressing whole classroom management, and motivational interviewing, in order to better serve our students," said Welhoefer.

Welhoefer said the employee training will also focus on how to encourage students to speak with an adult when they know of another student in crisis.

"A lot of that is based towards the quality of the meats that you see on the market these days, the premium toppings that you see," said Terrance.

EAGLE RIVER - In thinking about which color goes best with their red superhero shirts Monday, Eagle River Walgreens employees decided white fit rather nicely.  But getting chosen to fling pies filled with white whipped cream didn't exactly leave Bri Sandrone green with envy.

"I actually didn't want to, I wanted to have somebody else do it," Sandrone explained, with a laugh.

Wearing her "everyday superhero" cape and shirt, Sandrone found the courage to toss the pies in her bosses' faces.
