New exhibit helps celebrate National Library Week
Story By Jeanine Ilacqua

THREE LAKES - A Georges Seurat exhibit at the Demmer Memorial Library in Three Lakes celebrates the pointillist painter.

The exhibit is part of the library's celebration of National Library Week, which promotes the use and support of libraries.

Many local libraries are hosting special activities to help promote their resources.

The theme for this year's celebration is 'Unlimited Possibilities at Your Library.' Libraries in the Northwoods are holding events to highlight this theme.

"I think it really celebrates how libraries are changing," said Demmer Memorial Library Director Erica Brewster. "I think for the time being we will always be known for books. There's so much more to the world now. I think that is really brought out in the different things that other libraries as well as ours are celebrating,"

Libraries hope to help people rediscover the importance of their local library.

"Libraries were never intended to be a place where a book would just sit on a shelf and you come and take it out," said Brewster. "A library is a place to come and meet up with people with similar interests, new interests, and to learn new things."

You can contact your local library for details on how they plan to celebrate National Library Week.

NEWBOLD - Parts of the Northwoods have seen more than blank feet of snow this season. First responders want to make sure that snow doesn't create a public safety concern.

The fluorescent 'fire signs' outside many Northwoods homes help firefighters and other first responders find your home quickly when there's an emergency.

Newbold Fire Chief Mark Fetzer said it's important to keep them clear of snow.

"If we can't see them, neither can whoever is removing the snow from your driveway," said Fetzer. "They may plow it right over, then you won't have a sign there at all."
