Crash in Lac du Flambeau sends 6 people to the hospital
LAC DU FLAMBEAU - A crash on Pokegama Lake Trail near Eagle River sent 5 passengers to the hospital and the driver to jail.

It happened around 8pm last night by Cemetery Road.

According to the Vilas County Sheriff's Department all 6 people in the car were ejected from the vehicle- none of them were wearing seatbelts.

The driver, 44 year old Richard Allen of Lac du Flambeau, was arrested on suspicion of OWI.

A 31 year old woman, three 13 year old girls, and a 12 year old girl were in the car. Three passengers were medflighted to Marshfield. The rest were taken away by ambulance.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating this crash.

RHINELANDER - Thirty-one nonprofit organizations lined up their tables in the Trig's Riverwalk Center in Rhinelander on Tuesday, hoping to draw in new helpers.

The Northwoods United Way and other groups hosted the first-ever Northwoods Volunteer Fair.

"There is a need for volunteers at these agencies. We have over 150 within the Northwoodsâ€"nonprofit agenciesâ€"that always need help and are looking for assistance," said fair organizer Nancy Sattler.

The Rhinelander Area Scholarship Foundation raises thousands of dollars to give to high school seniors every year. It was one of dozens of organizations seeking more members and volunteers.

HURLEY - An Arbor Vitae man facing more than a dozen new felony charges related to the Wayne Valliere Jr. homicide pleaded not guilty to those counts on Tuesday.

Prosecutors charged Evan Oungst, 28, with nine counts of harboring or aiding a felon and five counts of giving out illegal drugs in Iron County Court on Oct. 5.  

He was first charged with first-degree intentional homicide and hiding a corpse felonies in Iron County in Feb. 2018.  That case is still active.

MARSHFIELD - The Marshfield Police Department wants to find three suspects it believes used counterfeit money at an area business.

According to a release from MPD and the Wisconsin Crime Alert Network, the suspects used two fake $100 bills to buy gas and food.

RHINELANDER - One of Rhinelander's busiest and bumpiest roads will likely see crews work simultaneously at two spots when a major reconstruction project starts this spring.

About 30 people got detailed information on the city's upcoming Stevens Street project during a meeting Tuesday night at City Hall.

The city is replacing about 2.1 miles of road and underground infrastructure as part of the $14 million project.  Leaders told the crowd the work will be "pretty aggressive" and have its fair share of "chaos", but the end result will be beneficial to all.
