Grass Fires Move Quickly This Time of Year

LINCOLN COUNTY - Grass fires get moving quickly this time of year.

Most of the time, people are to blame for the fire getting started.

It happened again this weekend in Lincoln County.

A 911 call came in yesterday afternoon at 2:27 reporting a grass fire in the town of Birch.

An acre was burning when a Lincoln County deputy arrived.

Over four acres burned by the time the town of Russell fire department and the DNR were able to bring the fire under control.

The homeowner said he had lit off an aerial firework just before the grass went up.

Last year's dead grass and leaves dry quickly and burn easily, so people are asked to be especially careful with fire.
