Oneida County sexual assault suspect waives preliminary hearing, set to enter plea next month Submitted: 07/12/2018
Rhinelander - Three Oneida County Sheriff's deputies -- instead of the usual one officer -- kept an eye on a sexual assault suspect in court Thursday morning.

Isaiah Moren, 21, went before a judge, accused of sexually assaulting a 76-year-old woman last month. Moren waived his right to hear some of the evidence the state has against him in the case during the five-minute preliminary hearing.
The victim's daughter found her bruised and bloodied in her Town of Pelican home June 10.

Police needed to wait several weeks for DNA evidence to come back that pointed to Moren being in the home.  According to the criminal complaint, the Wisconsin State Crime Lab's results linked Moren's DNA to several of the victim's clothing items and her sexual assault test kit.

Moren's court-appointed attorney, Mary Roth-Burns, declined a post-hearing interview, but told Newswatch 12 the case could get interesting as it progresses.

Moren faces more than 100 years in prison if convicted and is being held on a $500,000 cash bond.  He's set to enter a plea on August 6.
