Annual used book sale helps support scholarships for Northwoods women and girls Submitted: 07/24/2017
Rhinelander - Hundreds of books will fill Rhinelander High School this week for an annual used book sale. The American Association of University Women (AAUW) has been collecting donations for the sale all year long.

The Northwoods group has been hosting the used book sale for decades. The organization uses the funds from the sale for the scholarships it gives to local women and girls.
"The cards have been stacked against women for a long time, I think that's changing to some extent but we definitely want to emphasize that you can do so much more if you have a college education," said AAUW member Diane Dei Rossi.

One or two scholarships go to Rhinelander High School graduating seniors each year. The other scholarships go to returning Nicolet College students.

"Those are women who started their college education and life got in the way . Either oftentimes it's from having children or financial difficulty, and now they are able to resume their education and we would like to help them out," said Dei Rossi.

Organizers say the sale will have something for everyone.

"We will have a huge variety of books including children's books, fiction, non-fiction, we always get a nice selection of sheet music, just a little bit of everything and they're all in nice condition," said Dei Rossi.

Book prices are typically $5 or less. The group will still accept donations on Tuesday and Wednesday. Books can be dropped off at the high school anytime from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"They should be gently used books, clean, this isn't the time to bring in those mouse-eaten books that have been in your basement for years," said Dei Rossi.

The sale starts on Thursday and runs through Saturday. On Thursday and Saturday the sale will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Friday the sale will run from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
