Security system phone scam affects Wisconsin Submitted: 05/17/2014
Madison - Wisconsin officials are warning residents about a scam where callers offer to install free home security systems. The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says the robocalls do not appear to be coming from a legitimate alarm company and are likely fraudulent. The agency advises anyone who receives such a call to hang up. The callers tell people they can receive a free security system simply for having a sign planted in your front yard. Callers are asked to hit a key to proceed, but state officials warn that doing so will let the caller know the number is active and may lead to even more spam calls.
