Fire destroys Crescent homeSubmitted: 10/13/2019

CRESCENT - The Crescent Fire Department responded to a structure fire around 12:30 Sunday afternoon.

They were joined by the Rhinelander, Pelican, and Newbold fire departments.

The blaze broke out at a house on fire tower road.

Firefighters believe the home had been burning for a couple hours before they received a call.

No one was hurt in the fire, and the residents were not home when it started.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The event featured soups donated from local businesses.

Tammy Modic, The Executive Director of NATH, says the proceeds from the fundraiser keep the shelter running.

"It helps operate Fredrick's place, we have just shy right around 285,000 dollar operating budget this year all the dollar raised today will got the operating the shelter," said Modic

RHINELANDER -  A quarter of a century has passed since a group of staff members made a time capsule at Nicolet College in Rhinelander.

The capsule was opened over the weekend and today they were put on display.

Mary Fortier, a retired Nicolet employee, says the inspiration came after a reunion celebration 25 year ago.

"It all started after we had our 25th reunion and staff and faculty got together and said hey we should make a time capsule," said Fortier

The time capsule contained more than 100 different items from 1994.
