- A car destined for a Northwoods junkyard didn't quite make it there Wednesday morning.
The car started on fire while people were driving it up Highway 17 near Lone Pine Road north of Sugar Camp around 11:30 a.m.
Oneida County Chief Deputy Dan Hess wasn't sure how the car started on fire, but he told Newswatch 12 one of his sergeants noticed an oil slick about a quarter-mile behind the car at the scene.
Crews from Sugar Camp and WPS helped put the fire out, but the car was destroyed. Footage viewers sent to Newswatch 12 showed a large cloud of smoke rising above the car and creating a fog across the highway. Cars in the northbound lane were seen backed up for a long stretch.
No one was hurt.
Traffic was slowed in both directions for about an hour.
