- All the recent snow might impact many high school spring sports.
The one exception is trap shooting. Unless there's lightning, they shoot rain or shine.
Rhinelander's trap shooting club held its signup meeting Sunday for kids of all ages.
Hodag head coach Phil Kriesel stressed gun safety above all else at the meeting, especially the importance of storing shotguns off-site and away from the school.
Despite the warnings, Kriesel said the kids have been more responsible handling guns than you might think.
"I have a pretty good contingent of coaches, so we're always watching the kids," Kriesel said. "They know they're being watched. It's amazing, the kids are really good with gun safety."
The club plans to hit the range for the first time March 24.
Rhinelander's coaches ask that students do not bring their own ammunition. It will be provided for them.
