- Chris Huitfeldt met a group of people in Marathon County that had a passion for burning rubber six years ago.
He was drawn to their need for speed and decided to join their club as The Merrill Ice Drags Treasurer.
He wasn't a racer himself, but that didn't last long.
"I got talked into bringing a car out and racing it," said Huitfeldt.
He's been hooked ever since, even though his wife thinks differently.
"She thinks I'm kind of crazy for being out here on the ice racing a car," said Huitfeldt.
That doesn't stop Huitfeldt from showing up at races like Saturday's Merrill Ice Drags 'Mid Memorial' race.
"This whole day is set up to honor racers from the past that maybe have passed away or that are sick or have had hard times," said Huitfeldt.
The Merrill Ice Drags host the event every year in hopes to remember all who've raced, volunteered and contributed to their drag racing community.
