Rhinelander hosts Rebel invite, DeMeyer named 1st Team All-State
RHINELANDER -
The Rhinelander Rebels Legion team hosted the Rebel invite on Saturday.

Rhinelander defeated Clintonville 5-4.

Tomahawk defeated Chequamegon 7-5 in 10 innings.

Clintonville defeated Tomahawk 6-0 in five innings.

Rhinelander and Chequamegon began play at roughly 10:00 p.m.

Before his winning performance on the mound Saturday, Jacob DeMeyer's weekend got off to a pretty nice start.

On Friday, DeMeyer was named to the 1st Team All-State baseball team as an outfielder.

Those teams were selected by the Wisconsin baseball coaches association.

DeMeyer batted nearly .500 in the Great Northern Conference this year.

"It feels pretty good, knowing all the hard work paid off at the end. It's a good way to go out, and especially doing it with all my teammates. I had a blast this year. I wanted to thank my coaches for helping me, and my family and everybody else," said DeMeyer.

Antigo's Brady Tatro and Garrett Held were named to the state second and third teams respectively.

Tomahawk's Rachel Dallman was also named 1st Team All-State in softball.

RHINELANDER - A group of local veterans want to see some changes by Veterans Day.

The flagpole at the Forest Home Cemetery in Rhinelander is surrounded by a fence, trees, and a road which doesn't leave much room for the Honor Guard to preform ceremonies on Veterans Day or Memorial Day.

Quarter Master VFW Post 3143 Ralph Larson isn't happy with the placement or look of the 28-year-old flagpole.

"I'm very disappointed with the City of Rhinelander," said Larson. "It's back here in the corner and nobody can see it."

He believes that's why only a handful of people ever attend the veteran ceremonies.

"Its three to five [people]. I think the highest we ever had is ten," said Larson.

VFW Commander James Pederson says around 60 people attend Newbold's veteran ceremonies even though Rhinelander has a larger population.
