WAUSAU - The Wausau RiverWolves play their first ever home game in about a week.
Today, they brought the community into the Marathon Park Ice Arena for an open house.
Many of those people were from local businesses.
Pizza Ranch in Weston is a sponsor of the RiverWolves.
Owner Nancy Ferger has grandchildren who play hockey, and wanted to support the new team.
"I mean we should support our local teams an I think this is good for the economy and it will bring people to town and I think that's wonderful," said Ferger.
Having the team in town is great for hockey fans, but for businesses too.
Bringing a new team to the area can prompt an economic boom for local businesses.
"It will actually be a really good economic impact for hotels, restaurants, gas stations," said RiverWolves Business Manager Zach Serwe.
The team faces the Rochester IceHawks on October 13 for their home opener.
The season goes from mid-October to Mid-March.
Tickets are on sale now.
