STATEWIDE - State forestry officials say Wisconsin's fall ``colorama'' season is about to begin.
The Department of Natural Resources has dubbed this year's change ``Colorama 2010.'' The agency expects the show to begin over the next few weeks.
DNR foresters say decreased exposure to sunlight and temperature drops control when leaves begin to change and the summer's hot and humid conditions are beginning to give way to cooler night temperatures.

RHINELANDER - Imagine serving your country in the military for years only to come home from duty and find yourself out of work. This is the reality for many local veterans. But there is help out there for veterans who are on the job hunt and on Wednesday local service members got the opportunity to learn about a lot of those services.

Build A Better Burger Competition

RHINELANDER - A local woman is gearing up for a national cooking contest. Barbara Estabrook of Rhinelander loves to cook!
Barbara Estabrook, Contestant, Build A Better Burger, says, "Something I love to do! I am very competitive and I like to create recipes. It's just become a hobby and it's a lot of fun!"
And her lifelong passion is paying off! Estabrook's Minted Lamb Burger earned her a spot in the "Build A Better Burger" competition in Miami, Florida later this month, where she's turning up the heat for this competition.

Lowered Flags for 9/11

STATEWIDE - Governor Jim Doyle has ordered all flags be lowered this Saturday.
From sunrise to sundown, flags should be at half-staff in observation of the 9th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
That goes for all building, grounds and military installations in the state of Wisconsin.

TOWN OF THREE LAKES - Outdoor experts say Oak trees are important to wildlife in the Northwoods, and their lumber has economic value as well. But one disease called Oak wilt affects Oak trees and can kill them quickly. This aggressive disease has infected one Oak tree in Oneida County, killing it a couple months later.

MINOCQUA - A group of local community leaders are strutting their stuff for a good cause and proving they're a talented bunch in the process.
"We got talent. That's why we're out here today," says Minocqua Police Chief and Lakeland Noon Rotary Club Member Andy Gee.
This is the dress rehearsal for Northwoods Nonprofits Got Talent. And the groups performing at the Campanile Center are feeling excited.

City Wide Deer Hunt

RHINELANDER - Hunting deer in one Northwoods city might be put on hold this season. That depends on whether the Rhinelander City Council denies bow hunting for deer in the city limits this fall. The City Wide Deer Hunt started in 2006 and went from 53 harvested deer to only 18 last year. But the number of permits issued has stayed around the same at about 80.

RHINELANDER - Representative Dave Obey toured the Northwoods Tuesday...tops on his agenda is the future of health care. The retiring congressman kicked off his trip in Rhinelander. There he met with people at the Oneida County Department on Aging to talk about medicare and social security.

Harley Employees Get Details on Proposed Contract

TOMAHAWK - Harley-Davidson workers will gather in Waukesha, WI Tuesday (Sept. 7th) to learn details of a proposed contract which includes concessions the company says will keep jobs in Wisconsin.
The motorcycle maker and union leaders have reached agreement on the deal to save more than 1,300 manufacturing jobs in Milwaukee and Tomahawk.
Harley aims to cut $54 million a year in production costs and wants a workforce that can quickly respond to seasonal demands and economic changes that affect production.

ANIWA - Deputies arrest a Shawano County man after finding a marijuana growing operation in the Town of Aniwa.
The Shawano County Sheriff's Department says they searched a home on Cherry Road just before 10 Tuesday morning and found evidence of an indoor and outdoor drug manufacturing operation.
Deputies arrested a 23-year-old Birnamwood man.
