EAGLE RIVER - Superheroes and villains hit the water in homemade boats at the Pitlik Polish Regatta today.

Hundreds of people dressed in their wackiest outfits for the 15th annual event. Competitors tested their skills on the land first. Then, their score carried over into the boat race.

"How teams place on the events determines their position on the starting line. We then send out our teams on their boats and that determines the grand championship of the day," said event coordinator Gary Pitlik.

Competitors from across the Midwest came to compete today. All of the money raised will help students in Three Lakes go on a class trip to Washington D.C.

"We've raised $40,000 for a trip to go to Washington D.C.," said Pitlik. "Last year we were able to donate a chunk of money and this year we're planning on doing the same thing."

Event organizers think people keep coming back to the event because it's fun to dress up in wacky costumes. There's a different theme every year. Next year's theme will be circus clowns and circus freaks.
