Tuition freeze at University of WisconsinSubmitted: 06/06/2014
Story By Associated Press

MADISON - Tuition will stay the same next year for the University of Wisconsin system, but some other costs will go up.

The Board of Regents has approved a budget for this coming school year that freezes tuition but raises fees and room-and-board costs.

The plan freezes tuition for all students for the second straight year.

Republican legislators included a mandate in the state budget requiring the system to freeze tuition for two years for resident undergrads.

The U-W board extended that freeze to all student groups.

The budget raises student fees by an average of 3.6 percent and room-and-board expenses by an average of 2.7 percent.

That would all translate to an average of about $218 more per student next year.
