MINOCQUA - Many people enjoy watching the Kentucky Derby.

This year, some businesses are using the race to welcome tourists back to the Northwoods.

The Minocqua Brewing company served signature Derby drinks to attract tourists.

"We do some special mint juleps for the day. We have guests that come up for the first time because it's the first weekend in May. It's a good reason for people to come up and unlock their cabins and go fishing," said Doug Etten, the manager of the Minocqua Brewing Company.

Live music entertained the crowd.

Business owners believe the hype leading up to the Kentucky Derby creates a fun atmosphere.

"I think one of the things that draws people to this event is the persona of the event, being once a year. There's such a hype for a few days leading up to it," said Etten.

The person that picked the winning horse also wins a dinner for two.
