MADISON - Police have shot and seriously wounded a suspect in the stabbings of three people in a Madison apartment.

Police spokesman Joel DeSpain says the suspect has been taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He says two of the people who were stabbed have died and the third is in stable condition at a hospital.

DeSpain says there appeared to be some sort of dispute between neighbors but police don't have a clear motive for the stabbings.

The stabbings took place Friday afternoon in an apartment along Madison's main thoroughfare. Police blocked off the area, snarling traffic in the state capital.
