Former Badgers assistant reflects on 2000 Final Four appearanceSubmitted: 04/04/2014
Story By Joe Dufek

ST CHARLES, MO - Saturday, the Badgers face Kentucky in the semifinals at the final four.

It's Wisconsin's first trip to the Final Four since 2000.

In that season, Dick Bennett was the head coach. Also Stevens Point native Brad Soderberg was an assistant.

Badgers dropped their semifinal against eventual national champion Michigan State.

Coach Soderberg is now the head coach at Lindenwood in St. Charles, Missouri - a Division Two program. He says the atmosphere at the Final Four is unbelievable.

"They'll (Wisconsin) will be part of practice that is mandatory open to the public," Soderberg explains. "I remember when we were in Indianapolis, I was just amazed to see 20,000 people watching a practice. I got a little misty-eyed. I'm just a kid from Stevens Point Pacelli. I played Division 3 basketball at UW-Stevens Point. For me to be on the court at that time, it was an emotional time for me for a couple of minutes."

Soderberg thinks the Badgers will not only win Saturday night - but also win the National Championship against Florida on Monday.
