Individuals Shine at State GymnasticsSubmitted: 03/08/2014

WISCONSIN RAPIDS - Precision, showmanship and high flying action. All of these things made for quite a show at the state gymnastics tournament.

After an exciting Friday night of team competition, today the focus shifted to individual championships.

Antigo had 2 competitors in the all-around in Division 2.

Red Robins senior Lindsay Berndt was the top Northwoods athlete in the vault and the All-Around. She finished tied for 17th in the vault. She tied for 13th in the All-Around.

Chequamegon's Alexis Stueber qualified in the vault. She placed 25th in the event.

And Katelyn Kondzela was 20th in the All-Around for Antigo. Her day included a 10th place showing on the balance beam, 14th on the floor, and 21st on the vault.

In Division 1 Kali Schierl of SPASH was 21st in the All-Around. The freshman had 17th place showings in both the vault and uneven bars.

Congrats to all the gymnasts at state.

A Rhinelander woman faced rejection four times already. But Dawn Knudsen plans to try again a fifth time.

"I'm not going to give up in life," said Knudsen.

This is the fifth time she'll be auditioning for NBC's The Voice. The reality show is a singing competition with celebrity judges

RHINELANDER - A Northwoods teacher is being recognized for connecting her students with the world. 

Linda Goldsworthy, a social studies teacher at Rhinelander High School, won the second annual Global Educator of the Year Award. 

She is the only teacher in the state to win the award.

RHINELANDER - County jails in Wisconsin need more corrections officers. Nicolet College will start a new program to train people who want those jobs. Nicolet will hold an open house early next week to inform prospective students about the training necessary to work in corrections.
