Hodags advance to sectional final - Tomahawk fallsSubmitted: 03/06/2014

- Two games away from a trip to the state boys basketball tournament. That's the goal any teams still playing faced Thursday night.

Sectional semifinals throughout the state.

Strike up the band, as in Division Three, Tomahawk upset regional #1 seed Peshtigo to get to this game.

On Thursday, the Hatchets faced another #1 seed - Little Chute. The game was played in Antigo.


In the third quarter, Tomahawk's Jordan Roessler hit a 3-pt field goal to pull the Hatchets to within six points. Jared Jarvensivu led Tomahawk with 21 points.

But Little Chute pulled away from there. They led by as many as 19 points.

Tomahawk's season ends with a 58-44 defeat.

In Division Two, Rhinelander defeated Shawano 45-32. The game was played in Stevens Point. Rhinelander faces Rice Lake Saturday in Marshfield for a trip to state.

Other scores include in Division 5, Newman Catholic defeats Columbus Catholic 39-34. It's Newman and Green Bay NEW Lutheran meeting in Pulaski Saturday.

At around 10 a.m. Thursday, a driver lost control of a family vehicle and rolled off onto the side of Highway 17 on Rhinelander's north side.

ONEIDA COUNTY - The number of people battling aquatic invasive species here in Oneida County keeps growing.

Thursday night, one of three Clean Boats, Clean Waters workshops hosted by the Oneida County Land and Water Conservation Department was held. These workshops are to help inspectors know how and why it's important to prevent the spread of AIS.

"This is to teach watercraft inspectors whether they're new or seasoned the ins and outs of how to inspect a watercraft as their coming in and out of boat landings so we can help protect water bodies," said Oneida County Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator Stephanie Boismenue.

RHINELANDER - Inside Tricia's Treasures in downtown Rhinelander, Jennifer Sturzl takes a lot of pride in a carefully crafted latte. But out the back door, things aren't as pretty.

Across the alley sits the run-down former Kabel Auto building. Its brick walls are heavily aged, and many windows are boarded up.

MADISON - A top psychologist at Wisconsin's troubled youth prison was fired for allegedly ignoring the requests of dozens of inmates who asked for help.

Records obtained by The Associated Press show Dr. D. Jeremy John was accused in December of not following up with 26 youth inmates at the Lincoln Hills and Copper Lake prison facility.
