Many drivers ignore license suspensionsSubmitted: 02/11/2014
Story By Associated Press

APPLETON - Thousands of people driving in Wisconsin should be parked instead.

That's because they continue to drive even though their licenses have been
suspended or revoked.

More than 74-thousand people were convicted last year or driving with a
suspended license.

Another 14-thousand people were convicted of driving with a revoked license.

Town of Menasha police spokesman Jason Weber says suspending a license doesn't
seem to be much of a deterrent.

He says people are generally caught only if they're involved in a collision or
commit a traffic violation.

Appleton Police Captain Todd Freeman says operating while suspended is an
offense officers see daily.

Driver's licenses can be suspended or revoked for reasons including failing to
pay fines or being convicted of drunken driving.

RHINELANDER - Two Northwoods communities might trade their own ambulances for what Oneida County thinks will be a better combined service.

The county is asking Sugar Camp and Three Lakes to consolidate their ambulances for one, centrally located rig.  A new garage would go up near County Highway A on Thunder Lake Road between the two towns.

Oneida County Emergency Management Director Ken Kortenhof says that rig would be staffed 24/7 by the highest-level paramedic.  The two towns had a combined 365 calls for ambulance trips to the hospital last year.
