Story By Joe Dufek

EAGLE RIVER - Two of the state's best boys hockey teams met in Eagle River last night. #6
Antigo and #9 Northland Pines.

The teams had 3 losses combined. Antigo lost only once going in. But that was
to Pines in Antigo back in December.

The rematch at the dome.

Before the game Eagle River's 1989 state-champion team was recognized. It was
the 25th anniversary of the championship.

As for the game, Eagles jumped on the board early.

In the opening minute of the first period, Colton Raymond slammed a loose puck
home for Northland Pines. It gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Antigo answered on the power play, as Matt Wolter found an opening and scored to
tie the game.

In the second period, the Red Robins started flying. First Alex Nagel's
backhand somehow goes in to give Antigo a 2-1 lead.

Then Pines tried to clear the zone, but Jackson Charlesworth kept it in. He
shot from the point and scored to make it 3-1 Antigo. He scored twice in the
period.

Later, Antigo was back on the power play. Joe Kubacki found Wolter wide open
who scored his second goal of the game. It gave Antigo a 4-1 lead.

Antigo won 5-2. The Red Robins have won eight straight games. Click on the

EAGLE RIVER - Some local students could win state and national awards by taking a math exam.

Students at Northland Pines High School will take the Trig-Star Exam in March.

The exam tests students on trigonometry they've learned in high school.

Students need to be able to apply that knowledge to real life situations as if they're a land surveyor.

"Land surveying in itself is a basis for a lot of things in our country," says Vilas County Land Information/Mapping Department GIS Technician Tony Jones. "It's a chance to work outside, it's a chance to work with your hands, it's also a professional level position. You get to work with mathematics, and architecture, and history, and law."
