MERRILL - Just a few weeks ago, Wisconsinites spent hours shoveling and plowing from the latest dump of spring snow.
But Thursday, people put down their shovels and picked up their golf clubs.
"It was depressing to see white stuff still on the ground," said Northwoods golfer Merle Sheridan.
Sheridan recently came back from visiting Florida. He didn't think he would be golfing anytime soon in the Northwoods.
"I'm thrilled to be able to join my three [golf] partners and play in Merrill," said Sheridan.
Sheridan and dozens of others spent the Thursday at the Merrill Golf Club.
After multiple heavy spring snowfalls, many golf courses pushed back their opening date.
"It hurts us a little bit but we will make up for it in the rest of the year," said Merrill Golf Club Head Golf Pro Mike Potter.
