Hodag wrestling drops opener against RapidsSubmitted: 12/05/2013

RHINELANDER - The Hodag wrestling team opened the season on Thursday night. It was also alumni night for Rhinelander. Bill Makris who graduated in 1970 was among the alumni recognized.

Rhinelander grappled against Wisconsin Rapids.

At 106 pounds, A.J. Eswein of Rapids in red against Rhinelander. Eswein with the pin.

At 113 pounds, Christian Smith for the Red Raiders gets a pin over the Hodags.


Patrick Spray likewise collected a pinfall victory for Wisconsin Rapids at 120 pounds.

Wisconsin Rapids finished as one of the better division one teams in the state last year. Looks like they reloaded for another great year.

Hodags fell 57-10.

Meanwhile, the Hodag boys swim team had their home opener Thursday night. Rhinelander faced Tomahawk.

Rhinelander won the duel - 88-72.

Hodag Sophomore Ethan Brown won the boys 50 and 100-yard free style events. He was also a member of the Hodags winning 200-yard medley and 400-yard free style relays.
