Hunters who get shot often know the shooterSubmitted: 11/21/2013

MADISON - When hunters get shot, they often knew the person who pulled the trigger.

The D-N-R reminds hunters following basic firearm safety rules could prevent most accidental shootings.

Records show 28 hunting incidents in 20-12, including four deaths.

Most happened during gun-deer hunting, squirrel hunting and turkey hunting.

So far this year, the state has seen 18 shootings, including a Marathon County squirrel hunter who was killed.

About half of the incidents in the past two years involve members of the same hunting party.

The hunters misidentified targets.

Last year's gun-deer season produced seven shooting incidents, including three related to deer drives.

One of them killed a 27-year-old man.
