Lions' Dominic Raiola apologizes to Wisconsin bandSubmitted: 10/08/2013
Story By Associated Press

ALLEN PARK, MI - Detroit Lions center Dominic Raiola has apologized for making ``inappropriate'' remarks to the University of Wisconsin band during Sunday's game at Green Bay.

The Lions said Tuesday that Raiola called band director Michael Leckrone ``to apologize for his actions on Sunday that involved band members.'' The team says Raiola also promised ``a significant donation'' to the band.

The band was at Lambeau Field to perform during and after the game, won by the Packers. Band members say Raiola verbally abused them.

Raiola said he comments were ``inappropriate'' and he apologized to anyone he offended.

The 13-year veteran is the longest-tenured member on the Lions roster. Lions president Tom Lewand says the team is ``pleased that he has taken ownership of his actions and admitted those actions were wrong and unacceptable.''

RHINELANDER - You can help families stay warm this winter by donating your extra winter clothing to the Big Bundle Up Campaign. Tourism groups across Wisconsin are looking for mittens, scarves, coats, and other winter gear.

"Those would be really helpful for a lot of people in the area," Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Dana DeMet said. "And I think the biggest challenge in the Northwoods is that it's just not as visible, so it's a little harder sometimes to garner that support if you are not faced with it on the streets every day."
