STEVENS POINT - Rain didn't stop hundreds of people from walking in Stevens Point to raise awareness for diabetes.

"It's something that they have to deal with every day. They look normal. They look like they're living a normal life, but they're really not." said Eagle River resident, Leigha Siegmeier.

Siegmeier's daughter looks like an average kid.

But in February she was diagnosed diabetes.

"I took her into the doctor. I said is there anything we could test for? Diabetes?" Siegmeier said.

"Within three hours of that she was in Marshfield pediatric ICU diagnosed type one diabetic. Our lives changed forever that day."

She and hundreds of other people walked at Pfiffner Park to find a cure for diabetes.

"It just seems like more and more children are being diagnosed with diabetes. Every day in America 40 children are diagnosed." Leigha said.

That number is growing. But Leigha is determined to find a cure.

"Even if we could find a cure as to prevent it, a cure to treat it, it's just something that they have to live with every minute of every day."

Morgan Trudeau also has diabetes.

She wasn't upset until her mom reacted.

"I was sad because my momma was crying and it made me sad," Morgan said.

"'But she's not sad now.' I know that's why I'm not sad."

Morgan's sister has one message for the people at home.

"It's fun and it gets you exercise. Not only are we helping to cure diabetes, but it also gets you fit." Morgan's sister, Ariana Trudeau said.

And that's one step closer to a cure.
