Hunter shot and killed in Marathon Co.Submitted: 09/23/2013
MARATHON CO. - One person died after being shot while hunting in Marathon County.

The Marathon County Sheriff's Department says a 29-year-old squirrel hunter was killed when another hunter shot him.

It happened in the Township of Halsey Sunday just after 9 am.

The man died at the scene.

His name has not yet been released.

The Marathon County Sheriff's Department and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources are investigating.

It's the second hunting accident in Marathon County in a week.

A 20-year-old man was shot and wounded last week while hunting in Kronenwetter.

WOODRUFF - Woodruff police want to know what happened to a person who died after ending up in the water.

The Woodruff Police Department was called to Indian Mounds boat landing about 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Two DNR rangers there had pulled an unconscious male from the lake.

Medical personnel at the scene told officers the victim had died, and the coroner was called.

An autopsy will be performed.

No name will be released until the victim is positively identified.

RACINE - A 5-year-old girl has died after being struck by a van in the driveway of a Racine home.

Police say the child had just arrived for a party in the neighborhood Saturday afternoon and was facing the street when a 16-year-old boy backed a van over the girl.

Authorities say a rear wheel ran over the girl. The teen heard people yelling and shouting, but didn't know he had hit someone. So, he pulled the van forward, running over the girl a second time.

WISCONSIN RAPIDS - An 80-year-old woman died Sunday in Wisconsin Rapids after getting hit by a train.

Police say Joyce Huber, 80, died at the scene.

Huber tried to cross the tracks and was hit by a Canadian National Railway train that was going south.

Police say the railroad crossing safety arms and lights were working.

They also say the train's horn was working.
