Bill would remove some court information from internetSubmitted: 09/11/2013
Story By Newswatch 12 Newsteam

MADISON - Right now, you can find any Wisconsin court case in an online database.

That would change under a proposed bill.

Democrat Assemblyman Evan Goyke of Milwaukee is introducing a bill that would restrict access to the database.

The public would not see any information about a pending case, or a case where the person was found innocent.

Dismissed cases would also be removed.

Goyke thinks the site hurts innocent people's names.

Under the plan, judges, court officials, lawyers, journalists, and landlords could view pending cases in a SEPERATE database.

Goyke says he would compromise on everything, if innocent and dismissed cases were removed.

Goyke says his constituents can't find jobs because employers see the case entry and assume they are guilty.

Lawmakers on the Assembly Judiciary Committee will hear the bill tomorrow.
