Rhinelander Little League ready for state
RHINELANDER - The Rhinelander 9-10 yeaR old Little League All-Star team is making history.

Last month they won their first district championship ever. That means they're making their first trip to state.

The state tournament begins Saturday in Rice Lake. Six teams made the tournament.

They'll each play five games in pool play. The top two teams will play for the championship next Thursday.

Rhinelander thinks the momentum from the district playoffs will carry over at state.

"Great team effort," 11 year old outfielder Walker Hartman described their post season. "We played great defense, hit the ball great. Pitching was outstanding - throwing strikes."

10 year old infielder Payton Johnson adds, "Great pitching and when they hit it, we've got great fielding. We're working on defense and not giving up any errors."

"I think we're a pretty good hitting team," head coach Paul Johnson explains. "I think we've fielded solidly for the most part. That and we've got some pitchers who have thrown some timely games for us."

Rhinelander faces Lakeland out of the Milwaukee area in their first game Saturday afternoon.
