RHINELANDER - Hodag Country Fest sounds good but after camping for days, you may not smell good.
But Rhinelander High Schoolers can get you smelling fresh again.
They open the school's showering facilities to campers at Hodag Fest.
They also offer an all-you-can-eat hot breakfast.
"The best thing is the showers are not timed. They're clean, and spacious, and we have air conditioning if you want to get in from the heat outside. Breakfast is fresh and delicious," Rhinelander High School teacher Allie Johnson says.
This is the high school's seventh year of hosting the Hodag Breakfast and Shower.
The money raised benefits two organizations at the high school.
"We have two student groups that are really involved in this. The Student Council and the FCCLA. And they will be using that money for scholarships for leadership camps and activities, and for different activities around the school to promote the Hodags and school spirit," says Johnson.
They raised about 3,000 dollars last year.
You can shower or get breakfast Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 12pm.
RHINELANDER - A Rhinelander couple thought they were empty nesters. However, an experience volunteering made them open their doors back up to kids who need a temporary home. The Zoerb's adult children moved out years ago. But at any moment they could get a call from social services that make them bring out their parenting skills for another round. Rick and Danielle Zoerb work together as realtors putting people in homes that are the perfect fit. However, the husband and wife know their home can be a good fit for others too. "There's no reason for kids to have to fall through the cracks," said Dani. Rick met a child at a mentorship program a few years ago. It was a meeting that opened a new door for him and his wife. "There was no hesitation on our part when we felt the situation was deteriorating for this young boy," said Rick.
