Hail damages rental cars at airportSubmitted: 06/28/2013
Story By Melissa Constanzer

RHINELANDER - You probably try to put your car in the garage when a hail storm is coming. But lots that are full of cars, like rental agencies, cannot move them all to shelter in time.

That was the case yesterday at the Rhinelander airport. Avis rental car agents could only watch as a storm came across the runway with small pea size hail.

"Then it let up, and then, all of the sudden, it just like poured down quarter size....It was loud and we knew there would be damage to our cars," says Jay Kellner, Avis Rental Agent.

Out of the 28 cars Avis had on the lot yesterday...NOT ONE of them escaped damage. Every car has dents in its hood and roof. Now the rental agency must go through a set process to get them fixed.

"Our headquarters, we call them and for each car, we have to file an individual claim and then they send an adjustor out that's going to look at them all at once and assess what the cost will be to fix them all," says Kellner.

All the cars are still drivable but the agency hopes to get them all fixed soon.
