Plane crash kills Two at Madeline IslandSubmitted: 06/17/2013
Story By Associated Press

ASHLAND COUNTY - Two people died when a plane crashed near the airport on Madeline island in northwestern Wisconsin.

Sheriff Mick Brennan says a witness saw the plane try to land, then abort the landing and apparently turn to make a second approach.

The plane then went down just short of the runway and caught fire.

The names and hometowns of the two men were not immediately released pending notification of relatives.

The sheriff says they were not residents of the island or the immediate region.

The single-engine Piper PA-24 Comanche was registered to a company in La Crosse.
