Holiday Weekend Racing at TNTSubmitted: 05/25/2013

THREE LAKES - Do you feel the need for speed? If so, I hope you were out at TNT Speedway tonight. They hosted their second week of racing action.

Last Saturday's winners had the privilege of carrying the American flag on this Memorial Day weekend.

To kick things off, the Street Stocks took the track. In the heat race, Derek Eberl from Tomahawk took the lead late and the 98 held on to take the checkered flag. Jeff Mullins got his 1st career victory in the feature.

Next up in the first heat of the TNT Bombers. John Johnson Sr. of Lac du Flambeau jumped out to an early lead and carried it through one caution to finish first.

In the second heat, Tomahawk's Nate Langeberg in the 2 car made a pass and took the heat and Nate was also the feature winner tonight.

Other feature winners include: Kasey Gross in Stingers, Forrest Crandall in trucks, and Bruce Belland in the Midwest Mods.

PHELPS - Colin Snook looks across the street at what people in Phelps call "the big store."

"This store was awesome when I was a kid," Snook says. "You could buy anything from underwear to bullets."

Snook grew up in Phelps. He's now the Town Chairman. "The big store" hasn't been open for almost a decade.

It's just one of the things that have changed over the decades in Phelps. The only medical clinic only bank left Phelps within the last few years. A grocery store and hardware store have been absent even longer.

The child's father told police a man walked up to his seven-year-old and started talking. The man allegedly asked the child if the child was lost and grabbed the child's coat.

STEVENS POINT - Gov. Scott Walker's budget would cut state funding for the UW System's budget by 13%.

That would add up to $300 million.

It would help solve a projected budget shortfall, but UW administrators worry about how the cuts would affect universities.

UW-Stevens Point would lose 25% of its state aid if the cuts are approved.

That would be more than$9 million.
